Half of the Riddim Method will be on tour in Europe this summer, turning heads, blowing speakers, and rocking booties everywhere they go. Ripley and Kid Kameleon will be living in Berlin from the first weekend of June till the middle of August, and they will be joined by DJ C of Mashit recordings for two or three weeks in the end of June and July. Between the three of them they’ve mounted over a dozen tours of Europe and play music from across the spectrum of Ragga-Jungle, Breakcore, Dub, Dancehall, Hip-Hop, Dubstep, B-More, Acid Crunk, Wreckstep, Wobblecore, and Weaselrock. Our dates are flexible at the moment and anything from large festivals to small mid-week gatherings are possible. See below for individual bio information as well as links to mixes and our external sites. If you are interested in having us perform, please get in touch: riddim.abroad@gmail.com
[Mashit, Shockout, XL Recordings ] [June 23th-July 25th ONLY] DJ C continues to spread his fiercely eclectic gospel of crunkment, mashstep, ragga-bounce, and grime-hall across the land. He’s been pumping out a series of records on labels like Kid606’s Shockout, the London-based Scandal Bag, and his own Mashit. The tunes have been killing club sound-systems and airwaves worldwide. Legendary BBC Radio 1 host John Peel chose Mashit as “Label of the Month” in October, 2004, and featured a DJ C mix of Mashit tracks. He’s also dropped remixes for singers like M.I.A. and reggae legend Gregory Isaacs on XL Recordings and Shockout/Tigerbeat6 respectively. More releases are lined up for the Spring including a new Shouckout 12-inch split with Kid606, tunes on Strategy’s Community Library imprint, a 12-inch on Bristol, U.K. label Death$ucker, Boston-bounce tracks on the Beat Research label, and a digital EP for Cozy Music. He’s also finishing up, a full-length album for release later this year. In addition to recording, he’s been busy DJing and performing live for crowds the world over, while holding down a weekly DJ residency at the Beat Research night in Cambridge, MA. Look out for a floor bangin’ DJ C appearance near you, as the perpetual string of North American and European tour dates continue… Sites: Mixes: Photos: Click here for DJ C press photos |
[Death$ucker, Havocsound] “Rhythmic danger in overdrive… Rootical rally-cry uproar.” - Simon Reynolds on DJ Ripley Ripley has caused total dance mayhem in spaces like a re-purposed public lavatory underneath a street in East London, a former commercial fishing ship off the cost of Rostock, an (initially) laid-back lounge in Oakland California, a half-squatted office space in downtown Riga, the basement of an Indian restaurant in Bristol, as well as warehouses and clubs in most places you’d think and some you wouldn’t. Her wreckstep raggaphonics spill over and rumble under into dubdownbreak sound experiments and bounce back into nastybeast beats. Ripley’s fierce intellect and raw energy spark new uprisings and unseat preconceptions in the company of artists like Hrvatski, Kid606, Blevin Blectum, Dizzee Rascal, Kaffe Matthews, Bong-Ra, Criterion, Drop The Lime, and Dr. Israel. In the world of letters, Ripley also examines global property systems through the lens of law and history, shouting out Scientist’s lawsuit against Greensleeves and the RIAA’s raid on Mondo Kim’s, while Grooves magazine cautioned listeners to miss her Ich Bin Defekt mix on Death$ucker Records at their own risk. Ripley wants everyone to dance. |
[Mashit, Shockout, Press Up, XLR8R] Kameleon is a beat strategist who blends, chops, restructures and generally smashes rhythms from across the sonic spectrum. From breakcore and ragga-jungle to dubstep and grime, with stops along the way at dub, dancehall, hip-hop, DnB, electro and the straight up unclassifiable, he’s a champion of underground sounds and outsider music. The Kid has dropped his fast-paced, eclectic style at parties from California to Estonia, sharing stages with the likes of Kool Herc, U-Roy, DJ Spooky, Asian Dub Foundation, Alec Empire, Squarepusher, The Bug, Vex’d and Plasticman, and many more, and a super scientifical Ableton Live set that’s nothing short of a sonic mindwarp is in preparation for the Summer ‘06 tour. An avid blogger (kidkameleon.com and riddimmethod.net), he also writes a monthly column called Basic Needs for XLR8R magazine as well as doing interviews for them and Grooves. His mixes have garnered praise in publications like pitchforkmedia.com and URB and he’s currently working on a mix for the Ragga Jungle label Press Up Records that will see release in the late Spring.
